Google recently announced that all brands can now display their social profile links within the knowledge graph box. Smiles all around! Wait what is a knowledge graph box again…? Google it. Duh.
In late 2014 Goggle started to show social profile links within the knowledge panel for certain groups of people such as; actors, bands, and politicians. Goggle is now allowing brands to have social profile links displayed within the knowledge panel.
Google algorithms process social profiles and display the most relevant ones in response to users’ search. Google has also released information on how a brand can set up this featured title “mark up” and add the desired social profile links. Google also never announced this feature till after it was noted by Google user Dan Leveille on Search Engine Land.
So, the details do seem unclear but perhaps more direct and concrete rules will emerge with time. For now dealerships can have up to 7 social profile links within the knowledge box. The 7 social media outlets include; LinkedIn, Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, Instagram, Google Plus and Myspace. Yes, you read that right, Myspace is included. Pinterest, however; beyond all odds and conceivability did not beat out GooglePlus and is missing from the list. Shocker. Maybe Google and Pinterest are not on speaking terms at the moment.
This new feature does have a few wrinkles that need to be ironed out, but the social profile links are a bonus for dealerships trying to connect with their customers and are a great addition to the knowledge box. So, once again we must tip our hats and say, “Well done, Google.”
I did a quick search in my area and didn’t find any dealerships that had added it….yet.
Have you added your social profiles yet?
